The Blog

A blog about running Jungle Brothers.  About how we work, what we do, and why we do it!

And cats.  Lots and lots of cats!

Seed Packs Available

Jungle Brothers is selling seed packs.  But not just any seed packs.  These packs have literally 10 times the number of seeds as the packs you buy in the store.  TEN TIMES as many seeds- whew!  That is a lot of seeds!

Why so many seeds?

Success as a gardener really just means knowing your plants, and your climate well enough so that you can reliably raise plants, and not have them die.  Most gardeners know this just by experience.  For every successful plant, just know that there are 10, 20 or 100 plants behind it that have died.  Now they look like an expert by keeping things alive.

What to do with the Jumbo Seed Packs?

l want people to take these seeds, and try out 10 different places in their yard.  Put some seeds at every corner of the house.  Add some under a tree, put others into your flower bed.  Try a lot of different spots.  Your goal is to find the place where the plants (cilantro, nasturtium or basil) are happy.

If you find the place where your plants are happy- you don't have to do much work.  Really- that is the secret to being a gardener.  Find the spot where your plants are happy, and put them there.

Having 10 times the number of seeds means that you can get 10 years experience in one year.  And the great thing about seeds is- nobody had to know about the ones that fail!  People will see the success, but the failures...just tiny little seeds that will fade away and be forgotten.  A bit like that boyfriend you had while on vacation...

The real payoff

Next year is when it gets really good.  Instead of planting seeds in all the random places in your yard- just plant them in the spots where the plants did well. You'll put seeds out, and magically you will get big happy plants.  Your neighbors will be envious, your family will love you, and you can post your pictures online for everyone to see!

But even better- you will have cilantro.  Lots, and lots of cilantro.  Don't keep it a secret!  Tell your friends, tell your neighbors.  Share your cilantro with everyone.  That's how you get gifts of guacamole, salsa, chutney and other kinds of delicious foods.  People will start calling you Johnny (or Juanita) Cilantro, and the world will be a better place.

That is how you become a gardener!
