Tropicals are what most people think of as houseplants- but there is much more than just putting them in your house! In Yolo County, we can have tropical plants outside - in a protected spot - from April until October. Nothing will make your shaded patio feel more alive and inviting during the sweltering August heat than having lush tropical plants throughout the space.

Tropicals aren't just for houseplants, they can be outside! From April through October we can have these lush plants outside in a nice shaded area. Take advantage of this and have an incredible green space.

Coleus is a Jungle Brothers favorite. This plant does very well in Yolo County from April until mid-October. It prefers shade, to part shade. Morning sun is fine, but keep it shaded in the afternoon. Lots of water- daily in the heat of the summer. But the plant is so amazingly colored that it's worth it!
These also make great houseplants in a very bright (for the house!) location.
